Roothless Design and
Graphics History ....
Janet (Stratton) Zichettella first drew pictures in preschool by
copying the tiny etchings from her family’s dog-eared dictionary and
she has been drawing everything ever since.
After graduating from Old Rochester Regional High School in
Massachusetts at the top of her class in art, she went to Alfred
University 
College of Ceramic Art & Design. With
her BFA in hand, she then accepted a position at Ithaca Process
Graphics (it later changed its business name to IPG QuickPrint). She
worked at the print shop for 18 years, gaining a thorough understanding
of the printing industry. Her experience encompasses the design,
typesetting, and pre-press preparation of projects. Additionally, she
became skilled in operating offset printing presses, assembly and
finishing of the final printed products and also gained experience in
advertising and marketing.
In 1993, Janet launched her own freelance design, graphics and printing
business part time, naming it Roothless Design & Graphics. During
the first few years, Janet designed and marketed whimsical greeting
cards. Then she designed logos and office literature for local
physicians and other businesses. The work expanded to include writing
advertising copy and designing ads for her professional clients. These
ads currently run in thirteen NY newspapers, the Verizon yellow pages
and The Ithaca/Tompkins & Cortland Counties YellowBook.
After she had been in business for a few years, Janet decided that she
needed to learn bookkeeping to better manage the finances of
Roothless Design. She changed jobs.
Over the next six years she successfully learned accounting through her
work in the offices of an electronics sales and repair business and
then at a local CPA. At the accounting office she efficiently managed
the books of numerous local businesses and restaurants in QuickBooks
and in QuickBooks Online. Janet also completed additional QuickBooks
training and studied an online bookkeeping course on her own to augment
her bookkeeping skills.
In 2004 Janet decided to devote her energies to her graphic design
business full time in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the start
of Roothless Design & Graphics. She appreciates the support she has
received from her clients and feels great pride and satisfaction in her
accomplishments. In always striving to put her client’s ideas into
print creatively, enthusiastically and economically with ruthless
attention to the details Janet has built a loyal and satisfied client
base. New clients are always welcome and the consultations and
