Sunday March 24th 2002 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm at the Harford Town Hall: A benefit dance for Barton Valley Farms. Doug and Kathy Barton of Dryden recently had a fire disaster and lost their horse barn. Some of their friends are having a good old fashioned benefit complete with Bluegrass and Square Dance Music, raffles and refreshments (donated by local friends and businesses of course!). All proceeds go directly to help rebuild this local landmark. (The Barton Farm is located on Irish Settlement Road on the way to Hammond Hill Forest - a beautiful old farm that sits down in the valley there.) April 20th 2002 The next Ithaca Music Academy ("IMA") sponsored event is a performance by The Ithaca Community Orchestra April 20th, 4:00 pm at the Foundation of Light (391 Turkey Hill Road) entitled: "Music Bash - an entertaining, educative, and participatory Music Event. Daniel (Nickname:"Bisco") Corsaro makes this family recipe by hand in small batches and markets it in specialty shops like ours. Dan ("Bisco") will be in the store in person to sample out this versatile salsa which can be used as a sauce or dip.

July 1st - July 31st 2002 One of Ludgate Farm's most genuinely local and best selling artists is having a showing of her work. The opening for Christi Sobel is at Gimme! Coffee, 506 W. State St., Ithaca, NY. Christi's original art work will be on display downtown at this coffee shop for the entire month of July. For details: Christi Sobel. Saturday, July 27 2002 at 10:00 am in Dewitt Park: In honor of World Breastfeeding Week, August 1-7, La Leche League of Ithaca is holding a World Walk for Breastfeeding on Saturday, July 27 at 10:00 am. Families, health care providers, and all concerned citizens are invited to walk with us from Dewitt Park in downtown Ithaca, through the Commons, down Aurora St., then Buffalo St. and ending at Dewitt Park. Following the walk will be a baby carrier demonstration at Dewitt Park and a dish-to-pass picnic lunch at Stewart Park at noon. These turkeys are free range and drug free (no pesticides, hormones or anti-biotics used). A deposit is required; telephone orders will be accepted with a credit card. How big? The size you need is highly variable and personal; do you want leftovers? do you like more dark meat, and etc.. We are recommending as a rough estimate approximately 2 pounds per person - this should allow choices of light/dark meat and leftovers too. There was an error on the general information brochure from Stonewood Farms (the ones we had by the cash registers): next to the whole turkeys it said "skinless"... this was meant for nutritional information only - these are whole fresh turkeys with the skin intact! Also a note on turkey breasts - these are not available at Thanksgiving time due to the high demand for whole turkeys.

Christmas Trees and Wreaths available now..... As always (well for the past two or three decades anyway) we have a full selection of quality locally grown pre-cut Christmas Trees for you here. No hiking around in the woods - we've done all that for you! Included in our retail xmas tree lot are many extraordinary and exotic varieties: Fraser Fir, Nikko Fir, Korean Fir, Grand Fir, Balsam Fir, Canaan Fir, Concolor Fir, Colorado Blue Spruce, Douglas Fir, Scotch Pine and also some live Spruce trees in pots. The evergreen Christmas Wreaths are handmade by a variety of local artisans including members of the Ludgate family.
A customer of ours recently pointed out a horribly inaccurate news article they came across which depicted trees from foreign countries cut months in advance and sold here in the northeast ... it is just plain silly of course ... we all got a chuckle from this. Our trees are 100% New York State grown on local farms in the Finger Lakes area. These are freshly cut for our retail lot every year at around this time. Because we are selling trees from multiple farms we can offer the very best quality and the hardest to find varieties. And as always: One of our staff will load the tree in your car for you and make a fresh saw cut on the bottom.

The Ithaca Community Chorus & Chamber Singers, directed by Gerald Wolfe, will bring the ethereal beauty and thrilling drama of Anton Bruckner’s Mass in E minor and Te Deum to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church on Saturday, December 13 at 8:00 pm. The concert, with full orchestra and organist Evangeline Wolfe, will feature soloists Elizabeth Koch, Kelly Samarzea, David Parks, and David Neal. In addition, the Chamber Singers will perform four a cappella Bruckner motets. Tickets - $10 in advance, $12 at the door, and $6 for children under 12 – are available at the Ticket Center at Clinton House (273-4497), at Ludgate’s, and from chorus members.
Bruckner, a sincerely devout Roman Catholic formed by the provincial traditions of his native Austria, dedicated all his unceasing efforts as a musician and composer to God. Not only his sacred choral works, but his magnificent symphonies as well, express the deeply felt faith that inspired them. At the head of the Te Deum he placed the inscription O. A. M. D. G. – Omnia ad majorem Dei gloriam, or All to the greater glory of God. Plagued throughout his most productive years by self-doubt and the cruelty of the Viennese musical establishment, this rustic genius nevertheless recognized the Te Deum as a truly worthy work. He once remarked, “When God finally calls me and asks, ‘What have you done with the talent I gave you, my lad?’ I will present to him the score of my Te Deum, and I hope that He will judge me mercifully.” When his friend Gustav Mahler heard the work, he was moved to exclaim that it had been written “for the tongues of angels, for seekers after God, for tortured hearts, and for flame-chastened souls.” In the end, even his obdurate opponent Johannes Brahms conceded that this was a work worth hearing.

The Ithaca Community Chorus & Chamber Singers: Calling all singers! The Ithaca Community Chorus will begin rehearsals on Wednesday, January 14 for an April 18 performance of Beethoven's Missa Solemnis with the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra. Registration for new and returning members begins at 6:15 p.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, corner of Court and Aurora Streets. Rehearsals are held every Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 9:00. Those interested in joining the Chamber Singers are invited to stay after the first rehearsal for a brief audition. Chorus dues are $30 per semester for new members; for returning members, dues are $30 if postmarked by January 9 and $35 thereafter. Scores (Peters edition) cost $15. Sunday, March 21st, 2 pm -10 pm, the local community will have the opportunity to support the Salvation Army's Children's Music Program. A benefit will be held at the Rongovian Embassy in Trumansburg where all proceeds from the event will be donated to the program.

The benefit will feature numerous local musicians on two stages including both acoustic acts and full bands. Former and current students of the Children's Music Program will also perform. The benefit itself will feature 8 hours of food, dancing, and music for all ages. Coinciding with spring equinox, a celebratory atmosphere most certainly will prevail. Some of the acts that have committed to playing the benefit include Richie Stearns, The McGuilicuddies, Creole River, Trevor McDonald, Crow Greenspun, Urban Horse Thieves, Leif James and family, The Marty Withers Band, Alan Rose, Stephanie Green with Clint Swank, Jenny Collins, and Tillorson Creek. The Rongo is unique in that it has both an acoustic stage as well as a stage for larger electric acts. For this reason, there will be performances throughout the entire event with very little time without music. The event will also include performances by former and current students of the CMP as well as a raffle for products from local business' including Ludgate Farms, Hickey's Music, Junas, Gimme Coffee, and Mama Goose. growing wild in the region south of Venezuela's Lake Maracaibo and throughout the tropical lowlands bordering the Caribbean on Venezuela's northern coast. By the 17th century, Venezuela was making a name for itself. Its uniquely fragrant cacao bean was sweeping the world. When Jose Rafael Zozaya and his father-in-law, Carmelo Tuozzo founded Tuozzo Zozaya & Cia. in Caracas in 1929, it was the second chocolate company to be established in Venezuela. There they turned out perhaps the finest chocolate made in Venezuela, which they proudly named "El Rey" -- the King. El Rey's premium quality chocolate couvertures are manufactured with the famed Carenero bean, a single variety cacao grown in the north central region of Venezuela and exported for use by chefs and chocolatiers around the world .
